The Harvest

It's almost harvest time in the Hudson Valley and it has been some time since I was an active part of the hustle and bustle of the 'reaping season'. The fall does not pass without me thinking of the farmers and the guys as they start the long two months when they pick hundreds and thousands of apples which will travel across the country, and in some cases across the globe.

Both Kevin and I did a radio interview two days ago about the screening at Riverspace Nyack and we were struck with the questions we received about what is happening to them now. I realize that in many ways the film and those people in it are like children. We bring them up and then we release them into the world and after we do that there is so much about them that is private and that we no longer have access to.

Check out the harvest excerpt.

As I said in my director's notes. These people will have a place in my heart forever but I also made a movie about a period in these peoples lives that has already passed, at a time in my life that has already passed. As the film moves off into its current maturity and starts to screen in public, it becomes another animal with an ever evolving story.

If you have time go pick some apples this fall do it and if you happen to see a dark skinned gentleman greet him and ask him where he is from and if he is from Jamaica shake his hand and let him know, you know.
